 Wilderness Courses

in Comstock Park, Michigan

"Never be within doors when you can rightly be without."
-Charlotte Mason

We strive to inspire wonder, curiosity and connection with the natural world through playful exploration and meaningful community.

Our Story

Hi! I'm Chelsea. This is my family.

Discovery Wilderness School began as a dream in my heart in 2017. I was looking for real, meaningful relationships for myself and my girls, deeply rooted in nature. In 2018, we launched our small nature-program, and we've  been learning and growing in wonderful ways since then. Its been such a magical experience! I'm so glad you're here.

Welcome!

Wilderness Courses

Processing wild edibles, wood working, building and cooking over the fire, handcrafting, canoeing, shelter building - our classes encourage connection to the natural world and one another.

Location

Little Pine Island Salvation Army Camp

6889 Pine Island Dr NE

Comstock Park, MI 49321

The outdoor spaces here include countless areas for exploration- the beautiful Little Pine Island Lake, a native meadow, swamplands, and an old wood forest filled with ravines and a habitat for so much wildlife.

In case of inclement weather, we have the option to continue our nature studies indoors to process wild edibles, work on hand craft activities, nature journal, and play sensory awareness games.

 Land Acknowledgment

Discovery Wilderness School acknowledges that we gather on the ancestral land of the Anishinaabe People. We express our gratitude toward the Anishinaabe as the original stewards of these beautiful forests, ravines, meadows, and lake. We strive to honor Anishinaabe generations past, present, and future, through the way we create meaningful relationships within our community and the natural world.
